I wanted to paint a soft, peaceful winter scene and that's about all I had in my mind, to begin with. This is one of the few paintings that I started without a clear idea of what was going to be on the canvas. The barn came next, because a red barn and white snow is always a winner! ha! From there I played with a number of ideas, but eventually ended up going with a common scene around my neck of the woods....a hay field with a few deer getting an easy meal. It's simple and very peaceful. Mission accomplished!

It's wonderful ... your accenting of the larger flakes gives this such depth and an almost "being there" feeling!!! Love your detailing in specific places, the architectural accents on the barn for example, the eyes of the deer ... the glazing of icy snow on the tops of the hay bales!!! Wow and wow!!!!
